Health & Safety and Trading Standards
In August 1999 we voluntarily approached Trading Standards to request that they inspect our products to establish their conformity to current H&S and T.S. legislation. A number of recommendations were made relating to the construction and the number of nails used within the seat area. If you have seen similar products before you will have noted that all have a large number of nails within the seat area, any one of which could become proud of the surface of the wood and therefore inflict damage or injury.
As a result, we devised a method of construction that not only improved the overall strength and rigidity of the chair, (others do tend to wobble somewhat!), but equally importantly there are now no nails at all within the seat area. This results in a construction design (PP) that is possibly the safest and strongest on the market. Trading Standards have at our request visited us annually to inspect our range and offer any advice deemed relevant and as such have seen and checked the prototype of this form of construction for its continued durability and usability.
In relation to the care of our products, Trading Standards have also seen and approved the care and maintenance recommendation detailed below. The products indicated with the letters (TSA) therefore fulfill all Trading Standards requirements. We believe that we have successfully increased the strength, durability and overall safety of our products without losing any of the beauty, desirability, individuality and charm.
Care & Maintenance. (Important-Please Read Carefully)
1
All chairs will have been treated with at least one coat of a preservative/varnish mix and can therefore be regarded as ‘showerproof’. It extended exposure to the elements (especially the rain) is expected then we recommend that additional coat(s) of Ronseal exterior grade satin finish varnish is applied as and when required.
2
Avoid standing on predominantly damp ground.
3
Storing the chair under cover when not in use outside (especially during the winter), will prolong its life expectancy.
4
Greenwood furniture, unlike any other, will season and mature whilst in your care, so avoid extreme environmental conditions.
5
RRF has no control over how each piece seasons and matures or how well it is looked after. RRF therefore accepts no liability for defects resulting from the natural seasoning process or as a result of neglect.
